March 19 , 2020Cleaning and Sanitation Measures (March 30, 2020)
For the Play Room:
· Clients are required to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before entering the playroom.
· Hand sanitizer will also be used during the session as needed.
· After a toy is touched it does not go back on the shelf. Toys will be disinfected after each use. Any hard to regularly keep clean items will be off bounds or removed.
· I will clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily using a regular household detergent and water prior to disinfection (also done in the waiting room).
· Frequently touched surfaces such as door handles will be disinfected throughout the day.
· Specific items that clearly encourage transmission of saliva such as masks, whistles, bubbles, baby bottles, etc. are not present in the playroom.
· The sand in the Sandtray has been entirely replaced. Ongoing disinfecting will be used to keep the sand clean.
· An airpurifier (Molekule) will be running regularly. Molekule uses “an innovative technology that utilizes free radicals to break down pollutants at a molecular level, including VOCs, bacteria, mold, viruses, and allergens.”
For the waiting room:
· Families will be asked to wait to enter the waiting room until their scheduled session and until any occupants have left.
· I have temporarily removed books/toys from the waiting room. Please carefully monitor your children while in the waiting area to ensure that they do not touch any non-essential items.
· I require all clients to stay home if sick. I also request siblings, grandparents, and anyone else who may accompany your child to their sessions, to avoid entering my office if they are sick. I will ask anyone who comes sick to take care at home.
· I encourage parents to make an online payment in advance of their session, which can be done via the link in the appointment reminder email or login to the client portal. Additionally ensure your credit card on file is up to date.

Workshop: Integrative Play Therapy in San Diego
February 26 , 2016Webinar-Get Moving: Play Therapy for Boys and Active Children
February 24 , 2016Essentials in Play Therapy: Toys, Themes and Structure
December 05 , 2015December 5,
2015, 9-4, National University, Costa Mesa, CA
Educational Goals:
In this workshop licensed
and prelicensed therapists who are working with children will develop a greater
sense of confidence in their ability to understand and utilize toys, play
themes, and structural aspects of play therapy.
Toys are the words for
childrens natural language of play (Association for Play Therapy). The
characteristics and range of a toy collection must be intentionally created to
best impact play therapy treatment. The playroom is a critical variable in play
therapy and needs to provide physical and emotional safety, predictability and
continuity, and a sense of security to effectively contribute to treatment.
Play themes assist the
play therapist to understand what is happening in session within the context of
each individual child. Identifying and understanding the typical play themes
of young children enable the family counselor to assess childrens emotional
needs, family dynamics as seen through the eyes of the child, and unconscious conflicts that may be influencing
the childs current behaviors (Green et al., 2009 p.312). The understanding
grasped through play themes helps the therapist to track progress and
communicate with parents.
